Ruderal vegetation of prostrate annual herbs on nutrient-rich soils

new search

This alliance includes low-growing vegetation dominated by prostrate archaeophytic annuals. It is confined to areas under traditional management such as trampled village yards, fowl runs and the edges of refuse dumps. The soils are rich in nutrients, especially due to dung water enrichment. This alliance is more common in the Balkans and eastern Europe. In the Czech Republic it is retreating due to socio-economic changes in village communities and decline of livestock or fowl-keeping in village households.
