Festuco supinae-Vaccinietum myrtilli Šmarda 1950

new search

This association includes subalpine heathlands dominated by Vaccinium myrtillus. In winter the heathlands are covered by a deep, continuous snow cover, which protects Vaccinium against frost and strong winds. They occur in areas around and above the timberline in the Krkonoše, Hrubý Jeseník and Králický Sněžník Mountains, where they can locally cover extensive areas. Isolated stands of Vaccinium myrtillus heathland containing some high-mountain species are also found in other mountain ranges.
